Page history last edited by Bekka Kahn 1 year, 10 months ago

Course Details

Overview of the history of psychology, theoretical frameworks, paradigm shifts, psychology as a natural science, a social science , a cross cultural discipline and an agent of change itself.

Specific historical coverage: Willhelm Wundt, Sigmund Freud, Carl Gustav Jung, James B. Watson, B.F. Skinner, and Karen Horney. In other words modernist and post modernist perspectives in classifying, describing and applying psychology and what it means to say psychology generally from a wide variety of perspectives. Also topically discussed: Erik Erikson, Uri Bronfenbrenner and Alfred Binet. Other less well known global psychologists are also discussed and understood in context. This course would be easy to do well in but the broad range of subject matter and level of information available on the web in relation to the course content would make the possibilities of the students nearly endless!

Prerequisites

Good reading skills, study habits and a high level of motivation. Although many topics and subject matter are presented and discussed the assignments are more focused and less time consuming than the reading portion, however, they do require some extensive reading, not exceeding an hour or two a week.

Motivation

Current early psychology majors who want a more complete general introduction to psychology or more advanced students who missed some crucial points in their educational journey. Also this course would be for those people who always wondered what psychology actually is or who asked and never received a proper answer.

Audience
People who are self motivated and who desire to better understand human behavior and thought processes from a broad range of theories and experiences. Also psychology and business majors who want to improve upon their understanding of group organizations from the psychological perspective.
Experience

Yes. I have taken more than a dozen for credit psychology courses, many honors and/or upper division as well. I tutor in all aspects of psychology and I have master's level psychology courses completed both for credit and in free open course settings. I have taken over 30 non credit open courses in psychology as well in addition to extensive personal study too.
