Big Blue Button is an open source conferencing system, similar to Adobe Connect or Elluminate. Some of the features are:
- many concurrent users
- text chat
- voice (that can be controlled by the organizer, muted/unmuted etc)
- video (by one or by several)
- screen sharing
- presentation sharing
We are currently testing how reliable and suitable it is for P2PU courses. If we like it, it will be more closely integrated in the future, so you could schedule meetings directly from course pages, etc.. Make sure to read everything on this page before you get started!
Our demo server (which you are free to use) is hosted at http://bbb.p2pu.org. To create a new room, use this link, which will generate a new URL that you can share with meeting participants.
Currently there is no recording ability, this is the number one priority for the BBB dev-team, and the next version will hopefully have this. If you want to record, you could use a screencasting tool to do so.
Once you enter a course, all participants need to click the headphone icon to be entered into the audio-conferencing system. If there is only one person who has done so, he/she will hear muzak.
How to use:
The Big Blue Button screencast videos provide short introductions to the various features.
